Cuba comes to San Miguel! Cuba has taken over the central plaza, and there's music, dancing and booths set up to buy all things Cuban. I managed to catch a few photos of the colorful stilt walkers. Then on to a new Thai restaurant, Venus, where the food is amazing and plentiful! We should have shared plates!
The next day, Mike needed a haircut and found Evangelina, a lovely hairdresser opposite BajioGo Travel Agency. Eating at Juan's (Etcetera) on Relox, we met Renee from Ottawa who entertained us with tales of San Miguel. Such chance meetings are just amazing and we do enjoy them so much.
On Saturday, March 10, thanks to another chance meeting with Melissa whom we met at Cafe Monet, I joined Albert Coffee and a lovely and lively group of medical students from Dallas, to visit a newly opened archeological site at Canada de La Virgen. The site includes ancient pyramids (man-made hills), and was inhabited by the Otomi and other indigenous tribes. They are described as the sunken patio people. Restoration is underway and through Albert's vast study and love of this and other ancient digs throughout Mexico etc., our group heard of the rich history of this site, as well as the wisdom and memories divulged by the residents of the ranch communities in the area. I tried so hard to keep up with Albert who spoke for almost three hours without stopping, but my notes are very scrappy, and I found myself just listening to all the fascinating and interesting details that he revealed. I hope that he will publish a book someday since he has a wonderful way of bringing the past back to life.

The trip ended with a wonderful lunch prepared for us at a nearby hacienda, where Don Rosario reigns (he's on his horse), I photographed the pretty daughter and Albert showed off his skill in catching baby goats. Finally, the horse, Bronco, fastest horse in the area! A great time was had by all. Google "Albert Coffee, San Miguel de Allende" if you want to learn more of the tours offered by his group.
Sunday, March 11, found us at the hotel, Casa de Aves, with Marisa and Peter enjoying a lovely lunch. The hotel is out in the country and is such a serene and peaceful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. We walked through the hotel and were reluctant to leave!
On Monday, we met Nikolasa, her daughter, grand-daughter Evelyn and new grandson, Alet (sp?).
Aurelie and I bought tiny doll souvenirs and we then had lunch at Via Organica, our favorite eating spot. Walking home, we followed the sound of beautiful singing to Cafe Ole Ole and met Humberto. What a great voice!
