At our villa, there is an intriguing painting in the outdoor room over the fireplace that is so reminiscent of Beryl Cook's style (google Beryl Cook paintings) that I had to take a photo and post it on the blog. It's a sort of Beryl Cook Mexican Style.
I know you must be so tired of reading about the wonderful food we have here, and we do other things but eating is such a big part of Ron and Mike's day that it tends to dominate. Our visits to the restaurants also mean we are constantly meeting new people as we never just sit and ignore everyone else. You can be certain there is someone very interesting sitting at the next table and sure enough, at the lovely Posadita Restaurant where food is served in the roof garden, we enjoyed the company of Sam and Sue from Toronto (Sam originally from the US and Sue from Nottingham), and Patty and David from Ward, Colorado. Juan Carlos, our friendly waiter, helped to make a wonderful evening. As the sun set, I tried to capture some of the lovely colors from the roof gardens to the spire of the parish church.
Next day, we met Elizabeth and Archie Dean who live in San Miguel. Archie is a Mainer and produced the definitive guide book to San Miguel I've mentioned previously, The Insider's Guide to San Miguel from 1995 to 2010. Insidersma@yahoo.com.
He sold the rights to the book but it's still in publication.
There are 14 women to every male in San Miguel, and the city is full of pretty girls. Anel helped us choose souvenirs and I discovered that knitting is as popular here as at home so I couldn't resist taking a photo in a yarn shop. Then there was the gorgeous Alexandra who stood her ground when Ron tried to beat her down on prices.
The last but one photo is a group including Jack Ornstein. Jack has as many one-liners as Jack Benny and has totally missed his true vocation as a stand-up comic. He had us in stitches. He comes from a talented family - Norm Ornstein is his brother - and many of you will recognize that name.
Finally, I snapped Ron engaged in his morning ritual. He says it's exercising but I don't know.....
Hi Mollie;
ReplyDeleteJack Ornstein is a cousin, not my brother. Thanks for your very kind words.
Please send me your email address and if you wish, I will get Picasa to send you an invitation to see a few of my web albums. I am on Facebook too.
I very much enjoyed meeting you and your group.
Best regards,
Jack Ornstein. Jackherveyorn@gmail.com
P.S. I recognize the photos from top of the Rosewood Hotel. We were there two nights ago.
I meant to say "Jack Ornstein here. Norm is not my brother but a cousin."
DeleteBest,
Jack.
